This project intends to adapt previous gaming and education research to better fit students of color and create a larger increase in skill between the control group and the game group. The expectation is that by harnessing the power games and embedding coding lessons within the gameplay girls and other minorities will learn more than a typical lecture and garner a greater interest in programming.
CREU at Simmons
CREU aims to provide research experience to undergraduates who are qualified computer scientists but may face discrimination in the CS field. Past Simmons research projects through CREU have investigated pitch contours and how they influence speech perception; human gesture using a newly developed annotation method; an analysis of the way pitch contour is perceived; and an improved natural language interface for course registration.
